Eastgate has September YOM
The Garland County Master Gardeners chose the home of William and Carol Burgess as the September Yard of the Month winner.
The garden at their home, located in Eastgate Subdivision, was based on an English garden design. Carol Burgess’ love for gardening is evident from the moment one enters the garden at the side of their home. As people walk into this patio garden, they “stand in awe” taking in all the various colorful plants, shrubs, hanging baskets and yard art. In the center of the area, they find a large round planter filled with chrysanthemum plants and daffodils and a shepherd’s hook with hanging lanterns rising out of the planter. Smaller pots with vinca and marigolds surround the bottom of the planter.
Trellises are used for clematis and hibiscus plants to climb and cover one side wall with sun faces peeking through the blooms. Bird houses are suspended under the eaves.
The Burgesses enjoy watching the blue birds who return each year to nest in one of the bird houses. The opposite wall is covered with needle nose ivy. Various sized pot containers and hanging baskets contain a variety of plants, including Angelonia, caladiums, lavender, various shades of verbena, Mandeville, dianthus and trailing geraniums.
“They enjoy both a covered seating area, as well as another sitting area where they can sit among the various plants. Carol has done a great job in both creating and maintaining this colorful yard,” reports the press release.
