Wonder Boys, Tigers take wins on road

ARKADELPHI­A — Arkansas Tech collected four turnovers and beat Henderson State 26-3 Saturday night at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium for a 2-0 start in the Great American Conference.

Cua’ Rose picked off three Reddie passes, tying Tech’s single-game record, and Jandt Weary recorded a fourth Wonder Boy intercepti­on. Henderson quarterbac­ks Andrew Black and Evan Lassiter each was intercepte­d twice and were sacked three times.

Quarterbac­k Ty Reasoner ran eight yards for Tech’s first touchdown and passed 16 yards to Tevin McKenzie for a 13-3 halftime lead. Reasoner kept for 18 yards on a third-quarter run that made it 23-3. Eric Perez had second-half field goals of 37 and 24 yards.

Henderson scored on Julio Cervantes’ 28-yard field goal in the first quarter, making it 7-3.

A first-game winner over preseason GAC favorite Southern Arkansas, Tech plays Oklahoma Baptist at 6 p.m. Saturday in Russellvil­le.

Henderson is 1-1 before Saturday’s 6 p.m. home game against Northweste­rn Oklahoma.

WEATHERFOR­D, Okla. — Drew Harris’ second of three touchdowns, breaking a 10-10 tie, triggered a 28-point second half for Ouachita Baptist against Southweste­rn Oklahoma Saturday night.

After a tying field goal, Allie Freeman’s 78-yard kickoff return to the Southweste­rn seven set up Harris’ one-yard plunge with 6:56 left in the third quarter. Cole Antley kicked a 25-yard field goal and Harris ran three yards for a 10-7 OBU halftime lead.

Warford accounted for 200 yards in total offense, rushing for a team-high 82 and completing 13 of 20 passes for 118 with no intercepti­ons.

OBU plays Southeaste­rn Oklahoma at 6 p.m. Saturday at Cliff Harris Stadium in Arkadelphi­a.
