MALVERN — Tommy T. Hughes, age 76, of Malvern, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at his home.

He was born on June 19, 1941, in Hot Springs, to the late James Wesley Hughes and Edna Louise McGuire Hughes. Reared and educated in Hot Springs, he had been a Malvern resident since 1984. Early in his working life, Tommy worked for Jack Hale Conoco and later became a page builder at the Arkansas Gazette, The Sentinel-Record and the Marshall (Texas) News. He worked for a number of years as an extruder for Featherlit­e/Chamberlai­n Door, and later on, for Express Boats. He enjoyed working on small engines and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. His grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren were the light of his life. Growing up in the Assembly of God denominati­on, he later became a member and was baptized at Fairdale Baptist Church in Hot Springs. He and his wife currently attended Magnet Cove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Thurber Hughes, to whom he was married on Oct. 5, 1984; his children, Brenda Winningham and her husband, Roy, of Royal, Ark., Diana Ward and her husband Kenny, of Pearcy, Ark., Ricky Clift, of Malvern, and David Clift, of Magnet Cove; a sister, Patsy Ware, of Hot Springs; seven grandchild­ren, Ashley Walker, Tessa Jensen, Samantha Harris, Ryan Adams, Tayler Brickell, Ethan Clift and Eaven Clift; eight great-grandchild­ren and one on the way.

Tommy was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bryant, and three brothers, James E. Hughes, Wayne Hughes (MIA-Korea), and Earnest Hughes.

The family will receive friends at J.A. Funk Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. today, Sept. 12, 2017

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Terry Thompson officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the Morning Star Cemetery in Hot Springs.

Pallbearer­s are: Ryan Adams, Ethan Clift, Eaven Clift, Kenny Ward, Roy Winningham, Chris Harris and Derick Walker.

Honorary pallbearer­s are: James Brown, Jacob Adams, Jack Adams, George Thurber, Robert Thurber, Clinton Thurber, Ricky Clift and Scotty Brickell.
