MALVERN — Joe Henry Nolen, age 64, of Malvern, was born on May 13, 1953, to the union of Nathaniel and Dorothy Jefferson Nolen. Joe passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, after completing his morning routine of drinking his coffee and greeting his neighbors.

Joe Nolen had an extensive career of service to his family, state and country. He began his life of valor after graduating from Prattsvill­e High School in

1971 and enlisting in the United States Navy. As part of his life of service, Joe was also enlisted in the United States National Guard. After completing his military service with an honorable discharge in 1976, he began a

28-year career as a correction­al officer with the Arkansas Department of Correction­s. His exiting rank was that of major and he ended his career on Feb.

28, 2006, as Chief of Security at the Grimes Unit, Newport Complex in Newport, Ark.

Joe Nolen was preceded in death by his aforementi­oned parents, stepfather, John Bazziel; one daughter, Melissa Dawn Nolen; two brothers, Dewayne Nolen and Jessie “Bubba” Hall.

Remaining to cherish his memory and think of him lovingly are his son: Greg Green, of Sheridan, Ark.; four daughters: Miranda Jordan, of Little Rock, Ark., Nekiwa Nolen, of Bryant, Ark., Kristal Brandon (Kevin), of Hot Springs, Ark., and Kenesha Nolen, of Albuquerqu­e, N.M.; companion: Marie Langston; one brother: Nathan Nolen Sr., of Malvern, Ark.; one sister: Mary “Butch” Clegg (Leonard), of Prattsvill­e, Ark.; one sisterin-law: Geneva McNeely Nolen; seven grandchild­ren: Deandra Brandon, of Southfield, Mich., Tristan Nolen, Victoria Clegg and Evan Clegg, all of Little Rock, Ark., Mauja Nolen, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., JaColbey Bell, of Bryant, Ark., and Brevin Brandon, of Hot Springs, Ark.; five great-grandchild­ren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The home going celebratio­n service for Mr. Joe Henry Nolen will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Malvern. A visitation for family and friends will be at the church from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15,
