Lady Rams win 5-game thriller at LH

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton’s volleyball matchup with visiting Lakeside on Tuesday lived up to expectatio­ns.

Two teams with winning records went five games at Wolf Arena with Lakeside prevailing

25-18, 17-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13. The Lady Rams improved to 11-2 overall, 4-0 in conference games, before today’s home match with Magnolia. Lake Hamilton, 7-6 and 4-1, goes to Texarkana today and gets a return match with Lakeside Oct. 3.

Lakeside withstood 25 assists and 16 digs from Lake Hamilton’s Morgan Fincham. Lady Rams Kailey Bausch, Gaylynn Green and Lyca Steelman combined for 65 digs, Bausch and Steelman each with 22. Abby Mahoney led offensivel­y with 12 kills, Steelman with eight kills and three aces and Green with five kills.

Hannah Whorton recorded 18 assists and 9 digs and Olivia Lawrence 15 assists, 15 digs and

3 aces for the Lady Rams. Other Lakeside contributo­rs included Kayleigh Corjay and Meghan Fuller-Freeman.

Mason Aitken had 29 digs for the Lady Wolves, Allison Trantham recording 15 kills and Jenny Peake 12.

Lakeside’s junior varsity won 25-18, 25-22. Claire Monte totaled seven kills, seven digs and three aces while Cailin Ward had 13 assists, MC Cowen 11 digs, Jessica Jennings 3 kills and Hattie Anne Douglas 3 digs for the Lady Rams (7-1).

Breianna Tracy-Withers finished with seven assists, seven digs, one ace and one kill for Lake Hamilton’s junior varsity. Hayzley Irwin recorded three kills and four digs while Kennedy Campbell chipped in with two kills and an ace.

Lakeside’s eighth- and ninth-graders play Magnolia today at Ram Fieldhouse, starting at

4:30 p.m. along with the Lady Ram JV and varsity teams in Lakeside Athletic Complex.

* Lakeside’s junior-high teams won matches Tuesday in Little Rock, the eighth grade against St. Anthony’s School (25-14, 25-18) and the ninth grade against Mount St. Mary’s Academy (25-14,

23-25, 15-3). Leading players for the ninth-grade Lady Rams included Natalie Jennings (17 service points with six aces, plus 10 assists, 3 kills and 3 digs) and Maddie Trusty (8 kills, 7 digs and 2 service aces). Other Lakeside contributo­rs included Haley Fauber, Adachi Igbokidi, Katie Ballard, Macy Landry and Emi Kejser.

Abigail Thomas and Annalise McAllister each had three aces and totaled 17 winning serves for Lakeside’s eighth grade.
