Oklahoma teams score Arkadelphi­a sweep

ARKADELPHI­A — Jacob Harper’s 43-yard intercepti­on return as the third quarter ended proved the scoreboard difference in Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State’s 41-35 road victory over Ouachita Baptist Saturday night.

Harper’s return and Joel Carlos’ kick made it 41-21 and the Savage Storm held on despite not scoring an offensive touchdown in the second half. Allie Freeman caught a seven-yard pass from Austin Warford and Drew Harris ran five yards for fourth-quarter Ouachita touchdowns, but the Tigers went scoreless for the last 10:17.

Southeaste­rn Oklahoma led 31-14 after scoring the last 24 points of the first half. Rollin Kinsaul kept for two touchdowns and passed 79 yards to Ryan Ronces for another Savage Storm score.

Ouachita led 14-7 with Warford keeping 16 yards and passing 57 yards to Freeman for touchdowns. Warford passed for 215 yards and ran for 101. Freeman had 10 catches for 134 yards.

Rinsaul completed 18 of 30 passes for 231 yards and was neither intercepte­d nor sacked.

Both teams are 2-1 in the Great American Conference, Ouachita going to Ada, Okla., for a game Saturday against East Central. Kickoff is 6 p.m.

ARKADELPHI­A — Northweste­rn Oklahoma converted three fourth downs in the second half, Isiah Weed’s 35-yard quarterbac­k keeper on fourth and two setting up the winning touchdown in the Rangers’ 36-30 triumph over Henderson State at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.

Anthony Cota went over from one yard out with 1:32 left in the game as Northweste­rn Oklahoma handed the Reddies their second-straight home defeat. Cota added the two-point conversion after the Rangers drove 60 yards in six plays for the fourth and final lead change of the fourth period.

Henderson quarterbac­k Andrew Black carried 22 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns, his five-yard run putting the Reddies up 27-21 with 12:05 left. Weed ran

19 yards for a tying touchdown at 7:04, Zave Goodrich’s extra point making it 28-27, before Julio Cervantes’ 19-yard field goal at

3:24 put Henderson ahead 30-28. Henderson led 13-7 at halftime with touchdown runs of three yards by Black and seven yards by Cecil Langston. Black’s nine-yard keeper staked Henderson to a

20-14 lead before Weed passed 17 yards to Gavin Garner for a touchdown and Goodrich kicked the Rangers ahead after three quarters.

Both teams are 1-2, Henderson playing Southweste­rn Oklahoma on the road at 6 p.m. Saturday.

* At Russellvil­le, Arkansas Tech improved to 3-0 as Ty Reasnor passed for 264 yards and four touchdowns in a 58-21 rout of visiting Oklahoma Baptist.

Tevin McKenzie had consecutiv­e touchdown receptions of 14, 4 and 14 yards with J.V. Davis hauling in a 64-yard scoring pass from Reasnor in the third quarter.

Tech scored one touchdown each with its defense and special teams. Kristian Thompson returned a blocked punt 28 yards as the first quarter ended and Jandt Weary brought back an intercepti­on 46 yards for a 55-14 lead in the third period.

The Wonder Boys go to Bethany, Okla., for a 1 p.m. game Saturday against Southern Nazarene, which stunned Harding 28-27 in Searcy with two touchdown passes in the last 49 seconds. The defending Great American Conference champion Bisons are 0-3.
