LOCAL: Fire department conducts hydrant flow testing

-

Hot Springs Fire Department crews began conducting annual fire hydrant flow testing on Monday.

Testing will continue in these areas this week as weather permits: Files Road; Harmony Park; Section Line Road; Postalridge Road; Alta Vista Street; Hermelee Street; Elice Circle; Baron Place; Higdon Ferry Road; Spring Street; East Grand Avenue; Pine Meadows subdivision; Files Road; Oaklawn Racing & Gaming; Lakeside Road, including High Meadow Loop and the Rosewood subdivision; and between Trivista Right and Golf Links Road. Motorists should approach work areas with caution.

During hydrant maintenance and testing, waterlines are flushed to test hydrant flow and water pressure levels for fire control purposes. It also maintains the integrity of the city’s water distribution system by flushing out sediment or deposits that may naturally occur over time, the city said in a news release.

Water customers in the immediate area may experience temporary discoloration of their water. If this takes place, customers are advised to clear the pipes by running all the water faucets for a few minutes, and to postpone washing clothes. The discoloration usually lasts no more than a few hours, affecting only the appearance of the water, and not the taste or quality.

If discoloration lasts more than 24 hours, contact the Utilities Service Center, 321-6200.
