Pamela S. Bland

The memorial service for Pamela Sue Bland, 70, of Hot Springs, who died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, was reschedule­d to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Pastor John McCallum officiatin­g.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CARTI Cancer Center, 8901 CARTI Way, Little Rock, AR 72205; or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Max D. Chown

MOUNT IDA — Max D. Chown, age 69, of Mount Ida, Ark., passed away Sept. 17, 2017.

He was born Feb. 8, 1948, to the late Bob and Doris Chown in Muscatine, Iowa. Max is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Doris Chown; brother, Bobby Chown; and grandson, Hunter Chown.

Survivors include: wife, Jane Chown; children, Tami Streinz (Jesse), of West Branch, Iowa, Todd Chown (Nancy), of West Liberty, Iowa, and Chris Holway (Diana), of North Liberty, Iowa. Grandchild­ren, Cole Chown, of West Liberty, Iowa, Gavin Chown, of West Liberty, Iowa, Nate Chown, of West Liberty, Iowa, Morgan Dragovich, of West Branch, Iowa, and Jack Dragovich, of West Branch, Iowa; sisters, Karen “Kay” Cline (Bill), of West Liberty, Iowa; brothers, Fred L. “Pete” Chown (Judy), of Farmington, Minn., James Chown (Bonnie), of Crivetz, Wis., Dana L. Chown (Julie), of Lone Tree, Iowa, and Jon Kevan Chown (Mary), of Mount Ida, Ark.

Everyone who loved Max knew his love for fishing and hunting, and how he carried on his Chown’s Appliance experience here, even after he retired. He loved his Joplin Trailer Park and all his “Tenants” and entertaini­ng during happy hour in the fish house. He was especially a warrior against cancer, even through the battle he continued to entertain, and make sure everyone had what they needed. He got up each day to prove to everyone he could and to stay with those he loved in this world.

A family and friend gathering will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Joplin Methodist Church, 51 Mountain Harbor Road, Mount Ida, AR 71957.

Phillip Genualdi

A Mass of Christian burial for Phillip Genualdi, 68, of Hot Springs, who died Sept. 13, 2017, will be at 2 p.m. today at The Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist.

William A. Kellstrom

MANHATTAN, Kan. — William Arthur (Bill) Kellstrom, of Manhattan, Kan., died on the evening of Friday, Sept. 15, 2017.

William Arthur Kellstrom was born in Detroit, Mich., on May 23, 1930, to Arthur and Maude (Wherry) Kellstrom. He attended schools in Detroit and graduated from Edwin Denby High School. Bill then attended Wayne University in Detroit and also worked at the Chrysler Corporatio­n and Bower Roller Bearing Co. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and completed Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, where he attained the rank of second lieutenant. While stationed at Fort Riley, he was appointed to the Regimental Courts as an Officer of the Boards. He was then deployed to Korea and assigned as a platoon leader to the 3rd Infantry Division, 7th Infantry Regiment, and was the recipient of the Combat Infantryma­n’s Badge.

Upon returning to the U.S., Bill was married to Martha Ruth Copening of Iola, Kan. He graduated from the University of Kansas City School of Pharmacy in 1957. He and Martha moved to Salina, Kan., where he was employed by the B&K Prescripti­on Shop. Bill and his family moved to Manhattan, Kan., in 1962, purchasing the Palace Drug Store in Aggieville. In 1982, Bill moved the pharmaceut­icals out of the Palace location to the corner of Sunset and Claflin and opened as Kellstrom Pharmacy. Bill was a cornetist and a charter member of the Palace Drug Dixieland Band, and later, the Palace Jazz Band, which entertaine­d many in Manhattan and throughout the Midwest. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason at the Lafayette Lodge No. 16, Salina Isis Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of Salina and ROJ Court No.

94. After retirement, Bill and Martha purchased a cabin in Estes Park, Colo., and spent

20 years enjoying friends, golfing, hiking and the great outdoors. They returned to Manhattan for the remainder of their retirement years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Martha Kellstrom; his sons, John and Jim, daughters-in-law, Beth and Jane, respective­ly; three grandchild­ren: Olivia and Will, of Hot Springs, Ark., and Margaret, of Manhattan, Kan. Bill is preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Bob) Kelstrom, of Palm Harbor, Fla., 1997.

1317 Poyntz in Manhattan. Inurnment services will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept.

21, 2017, with Masonic and Fort Riley Military Honors being provided.

In lieu of flowers, Bill requested that contributi­ons be made to the Manhattan Shrine Club Children’s Fund, the Good Shepherd Hospice House, the Russel Reitz Animal Shelter, or the Manhattan Municipal Band and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Randy Montgomery

BISMARCK — Randy Montgomery, age 42, of Bismarck, passed from this life on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, in Bismarck.

Randy is survived by his mother, Becky Montgomery, of Bismarck; one daughter, Cali Montgomery; one brother, Glenn Montgomery, of Poyen; two sisters, Linda Horton, of Norman, and Christy Olivella, of Bismarck; and one very special granddaugh­ter, Lilly Grace Montgomery.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at DeRoche Cemetery with Brother Chris Morrison officiatin­g.

The family will receive friends at DeRoche Missionary Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

The service for Verline Hood Montgomery, 87, of Hot Springs, who died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hot Springs Funeral Home with Brother Eric Capaci officiatin­g.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery

Verlos Myers

ROYAL — Verlos “Gene” Myers, age 82, of Royal, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1934, at home near Bluffton, Ind., the son of Gale and Wealtha Myers. On Dec. 20, 1954, he married Peggy Vanator. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene retired from the United States Army after 26 years and later went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Blakely Dam complex for 20 years. He was a jack of all trades who loved the outdoors, working and tinkering on mechanical things in his shop, being with family and working in the yard with his wife of 62 years.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Jean Myers, of Royal; his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Gary Devahl, of Garden Grove, Calif.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Carey and Jan Myers, of Houston, Texas, Russell and Lisa Myers, of Mena, and Scott and Sherri Myers, of Opal; eight grandchild­ren, Tali Hawkins, Savannah and Robert Todd, Natalie and Steven DelAngel, Candace and Kyle Rowe, Dalton and Summer Myers, Jill Callahan, Amy Ann and Jason Vanwinkle and Brandon K. and Melissa Devahl; 17 great-grandchild­ren; four sisters, Jeannie, Peggy, Sue and Dory; nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with Brother Andy Kennedy officiatin­g. Full military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
