Lady Cobras win in 4 against LH

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

FOUNTAIN LAKE — Undefeated Fountain Lake turned back visiting Lake Hamilton in an intensely played four-game volleyball match Tuesday at Bass Gymnasium.

With the game count 1-1, Fountain Lake rallied from an 8-3 deficit to win Game 3 25-21 and closed out the Lady Wolves, 25-20.

“That was pretty intense,” said Fountain Lake head coach Tina Moore. “Their offense was a lot more potent tonight, so we had to play some good defense. We made a change-up in Game 3 when we got down, and put my big hitter against their short block, and that changed the whole dynamics of the game. The whole momentum swung our way. That was a big plus right there.”

Fountain Lake won the first game 25-21, Lake Hamilton pulling within 19-18 after trailing 15-11. Lake Hamilton led 17-13 in Game 2 and tied the match, 25-19.

“Our defense, that kept us in the ballgame,” said Lake Hamilton coach Karen Smith.

Jenny Peake led the Lady Wolves with 17 kills and nine digs, Brooke Powell and Mason Aitken each had 16 digs with two assists and Allison Trantham had 14 digs with six assists.

“I think that for a bunch of juniors and sophomores, I think that we played very well tonight,” said Smith. “We had a lot of errors, and we’re working on cleaning those up.”

Olivia Cox led the Lady Cobras with 21 kills, and Emoree Martin had 11. Erin Graves finished with

18 digs.

Moore was not surprised by the performance by Bairett and Cox.

“They have to have a big game for us to pull out a big win,” she said. “They played really solid.”

In matches today, Lake Hamilton (10-6, 2-0) is home against El Dorado and Fountain Lake (130, 7-0) against Haskell Harmony Grove.
