Volleyball: Lady Cobras still perfect

FOUNTAIN LAKE — Elizabeth Bairett and Molly Breshears each had 23 winning service points for undefeated Fountain Lake’s varsity volleyball team Thursday in a 3-0 match with Haskell Harmony Grove.

Bairett notched 21 assists and Breshears posted five kills in the 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 decision at Bass Gymnasium. Fountain Lake, 8-0 in conference matches, is 14-0 for the season with Malvern on the road Monday and home dates Tuesday against Lakeside and Thursday against Ashdown.

Emily Hughes had 11 service points and three kills as Fountain Lake’s junior varsity won 25-20,

25-23 over Harmony Grove. The Lady Cobra junior high won 25-17, 25-18.

* Lakeside improved to 21-2-1 with a 3-0 road win over Texarkana, Meghan Fuller-Freeman with a personal high of three solo blocks and four kills for the Lady Rams. Hannah Whorton recorded 21 assists and 6 aces, Abby Mahoney 5 kills and Olivia Lawrence 4 kills and 10 assists. Also prominent were Molly Stineman (14 digs), Gaylynn Green (9 kills and 5 digs) and Kailey Bausch (8 digs). Scores were

25-8, 25-11, 25-12.

Lakeside’s junior varsity (10-2) won 25-5, 25-16 with strong games from Hattie Anne Douglas, Daelynn White, Claire Monte, Cailin Ward, Ainsley Rottinghau­s and McKaila Davis.

The Lady Rams’ varsity and JV teams play at Jacksonvil­le on Monday.

* The undefeated Lakeside ninth-graders downed Lake Hanilton 25-12, 25-10 at Wolf Arena. Taylor Ramirez had 18 service points (2 aces) and

5 digs for the Lady Rams, Maddie Trusty with 9 kills and 6 digs. Alexis Drake, Natalie Jennings and Adachi Igbokidi each had 4 kills and Ava Monte and Jaiden Drake 3 each. Gracie Gann recorded 9 digs for the 13-0 Lady Rams, who host a tournament today.

Lake Hamilton (19-25, 25-18, 15-5) and Lakeside (25-21, 25-16) split eighth-grade matches. Lakeside’s eighth-graders (8-2) play today in the Benton Invitation­al and go to Texarkana on Monday.

Junior high football: McClellan-Lakeside

Andrew Bearss’ seven-yard fumble return for a touchdown punctuated Lakeside’s 27-8 win over visiting Little Rock McClellan Thursday night at Austin Field.

Will Ross added the two-point conversion after Bearss’ score for a 27-0 lead in the third quarter. Ross passed 21 yards to Ty Davis and Will Perrigo ran three yards and one yard for the Rams’ other touchdowns. Alvaro Barragan kicked an extra point and Perrigo, on a pass from Ross, scored a two-point conversion.

Ross completed nine of 18 passes for 137 yards, Logan White with three receptions for 54 yards. Isaac Echols carried nine times for 40 yards. Perrigo had five tackles.

LHJH-Benton

BENTON — Dale Starr passed 87 yards to Tommy Reeves for a first-quarter touchdown that sparked Benton to a 40-20 triumph over Lake Hamilton Thursday night.

Starr passed to Reeves for a two-point conversion as Benton went up 14-8. Curt Jackson ran 20 yards and Matt Cooper 15 yards as Benton set the halftime lead at 28-8.

Carlos Brewer caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Layne Warrick, whose two-point conversion put the Wolves ahead with 2:02 left in the first quarter. Lake Hamilton did not score again until

Brewer’s one-yard run late in the third quarter. Chase Jessup returned a fumble seven yards for a Wolf touchdown with 3:30 left in the game.

Warrick ran for 60 yards and had a catch for 42 yards, also recording four tackles and 40 yards in kickoff returns. The 1-3 junior Wolves host Cabot North next week.

Lake Hamilton’s eighth-grade team (3-1) lost 30-22 to Benton.

F. Lake-Jacksonvil­le

JACKSONVIL­LE — Jacksonvil­le overcame two touchdowns by Owen Barthel and defeated Fountain Lake 24-18 in junior-high football Thursday night.

Jack Wurz passed 15 yards to Asa Westerman for a Fountain Lake touchdown, making it 6-6. Barthel scored from two yards out in the third quarter and on a oneyard plunge in the fourth.

Jacksonvil­le scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, one on an intercepti­on return.

Fountain Lake plays Nashville at home Thursday.

* Evan East threw for three touchdowns and ran for one as the seventh-grade Cobras shut out Jacksonvil­le 24-0.

Nathaniel Speed caught two of East’s touchdown passes, and Wesley Campbell added a pair of two-point conversion­s. Tailbacks Taten Smith and Juan Diggs sparked the Cobras.

Bismarck-J’ville

JESSIEVILL­E — Carson Hair completed all five of his pass attempts for 161 yards and two touchdowns as Jessievill­e downed Bismarck 22-8 at Phillips Field.

Hair passed 82 yards to Landon Daley for a second-quarter score and added the two-point conversion. It was 14-0 after Hair found Charlie Davis for 53 yards in the third quarter.

Bismarck scored on Bailey Graves’ 18yard pass to Braven Golden before Jessievill­e’s Andrew Graves ran eight yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown that set the final margin.

Now 3-1, the junior Lions travel to Glen Rose next week.
