Failed pledges

-

Dear editor:

While I found Ashton Miller’s letter last week pompous and arrogant, he made a couple of valid points. Tom Cotton and Bruce Westerman were elected on several key campaign issues and they are failing miserably to uphold pledges made.

My biggest problem with the Republicans (Westerman and Cotton included) is that they constantly rail against social benefits, such as welfare, unemployment, food stamps, disability benefits, etc.; I could not agree more. I, too, am tired of deadbeats living off my tax dollar. But what is completely hypocritical about the position of Westerman and Cotton is that they will also go out in the next election and condemn abortion.

Where do they think the recipients of those programs come from? They come from uneducated, minority, low-income households, most of which involve only one parent. They are subsequently rewarded once a year via tax refund the more children they have out of wedlock. It’s easy to call oneself pro-choice, I have the guts to say I am pro-abortion.

This is a cycle that not only continues, but multiplies. So when Cotton and Westerman deny Planned Parenthood funds, they are adding to the problem and our national deficit, as well as putting kids on the street and in bad households that should never have been born. A stitch in time saves nine, the old saying goes.

That may sound harsh, but the law is the law, and it allows abortion and birth control. Our population has increased 100 fold in the last 1,000 years. The earth has only so many resources. Before any of you write back to criticize this letter, please include the number of children you have adopted. Otherwise, you’re hypocritical. Casey Alexander Hot Springs
