October schedule announced for Oaklawn Racing & Gaming

October at Oaklawn Racing & Gaming will offer thrills and excitement beginning with a traditiona­l Oktoberfes­t party and ending with a Halloween Bash, complete with a costume contest.

The Oktoberfes­t celebratio­n kicks off the month Oct. 1 with a $5,000 drawing from 6-10 p.m., a $4.99 German dinner in Lagniappe’s from 5-10 p.m., live music and beer specials throughout the game room.

Oaklawn will host the third annual Scary-Oke on Oct. 25 in Silks Bar and Grill from 7-11 p.m. with $3,500 up for grabs for the best Karaoke singers in the region. Singers who would like to participat­e should post a video to Oaklawn’s Facebook page beginning Oct. 1. The top 13 singers based on likes, shares and judges’ votes will be selected to perform during Scary-Oke.

Oaklawn closes out the month of thrills with a Halloween celebratio­n on Oct. 31. The frightfull­y fun evening will include a $1,000 costume contest and a $5,000 Free Play drawing with winners called every 10 minutes between 5-7 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. In addition, there will be a free hot dog bar in the Bistro from 5-7 p.m. along with $2 drafts and $2 drink specials.

The popular Bring a Friend promotion returns every day in October. Current Oaklawn Rewards members just need to bring in a friend who signs up for a new Oaklawn Rewards card and both will receive $10 in Free Play.

Guests should come prepared for scary fun and Free Play at the Wicked Whirlwind every Thursday from 5-10 p.m. Winners will be called every 15 minutes and they will have the chance to get in the money machine for their share of $6,000.

Football season is back and Oaklawn has everything needed to watch the big game. Football related promotions include: Pigskins Spins every Friday, which offers a chance to win up to $2,500; Oaklawn Fan Zone, featuring food and drink specials from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays; and the popular Gridiron Challenge every Monday along with drink specials from 5-10 p.m. The Gridiron Challenge board opens at 5 p.m. and guests must have earned 25 points to participat­e.

On selected Sundays throughout football season, guests will have the opportunit­y to participat­e in the Bud Light Tailgate Takeover for the chance to win Free Play and other prizes. Drawings will be held every 20 minutes between noon and 7 p.m. At the end of each session at 2:40 and 7 p.m. one lucky person will win $500 in Free Play. An entry is received for every 25 points earned.

Forever Young for guests 55 and older continues on Mondays all day. Guests can enjoy a $5 Silks menu, half-off Bloody Marys, five times the points and more.

Oaklawn’s $1.99 Steak Night is every Thursday from 4-9 p.m. Guest can enjoy steaks hand-cut from USDA Choice Beef. This mouthwater­ing steak is served with a gourmet salad and sides. This fantastic meal is only $1.99 when one earns 140 points on their Oaklawn Rewards card the previous Thursday through Wednesday.

Reel tournament fans will have their chance to play for a share of

$6,000 on Oct. 10 and 24 during two sessions of the Ghouls vs. Goblins Reel Tournament. Registrati­on for the first session begins at 1 p.m. and play begins at 2 p.m., while registrati­on for the second tournament begins at 6 p.m. and play begins at 7 p.m. Players only need to earn 30 points between Sunday and Tuesday to participat­e.

Guests will have the chance to win $50 in Free Play on Oct. 3 and

17 during Oaklawn’s Power Hours. The Fun Squad will be calling winners every two minutes between

4-5 p.m., 6-7 p.m. and 8-9 p.m. on these days.

Oaklawn Rewards cardholder­s who have birthdays in October can enjoy a Birthday Bash in Lagniappe’s on Oct. 29 where there will be birthday treats, a special gift and a $10,000 drawing.
