Elections have consequences
Dear editor:
Once again the Republican-led Senate is determined to undermine the health care of this nation and their current legislation being voted on would essentially just repeal with no real replacement of the ACA. And even that is only temporary, because the “block grants” to the states will be phased out and then we’ll not even have Medicaid in a few years.
This is the sneaky way it’s done so that current senators and House members don’t suffer politically, they set it to become fully effective five to 10 years out, which is what they’re doing with the current very toxic version of what they like to call “health” care and I call a path to early death.
It’s well known that the majority of blue states remit more to the federal government then they receive, whereas most red states remit less than they receive back, so I’d like to see tit for tat and the states only get back what they paid in, so that those who did not vote for Trump or Republicans aren’t forced to suffer the consequences they tried to avoid. Then perhaps people will begin to understand that the Republican Party is not and never has been the party of the people. They don’t listen and never will listen to the people. A win for them is political, not in terms of the interest of the people.
We no longer have a functional government. It’s all a political game these days to see who can please which billionaire first, or which special interest, all while ignoring the needs of their constituents. Judith Zitko Hot Springs Village
