Being displaced

- Janie Smith Helping Others at Jackson House

We hear of people suffering through a variety of disasters both near and far from the news, from friends and social media. It makes up a great deal of the news, in fact. Everyone is talking about the hurricanes, fires, floods, etc. It often feels distant unless we know someone personally or have some other connection. We forget that there are often local disasters that are happening to local people in a variety of ways.

Seniors generally have several major moves in their latter years. They retire and move to a smaller place where they can enjoy their retirement activities. Then, they may have one or more issues resulting in a move to a more care focused setting or two. Each move often feels like a step down, a loss of freedom and independence as it were.

Then there are the displacements that happen. These can come in many forms. Some may include loss of income due to loss of a spouse, increased costs that are unaffordable, eviction, loss of suitability of the home itself, as well as many other issues. All of these become a displacement. This is a heart wrenching and unwelcome change. It can result in depression, loss of hope and desire to continue. Unfortunately this is a common feeling among those in crisis including the elderly.

Jackson House is here to try to help with the various needs of people in crisis. These and related or similar situations happen every day. Join with us to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by tough situations. Call 501-623-4048 or come by 705 Malvern Ave., Hot Springs. Jackson House is “A Place To Care And Be Cared For.”
