HSVGS to hear about Mayflower women

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Although there were only 102 passengers on the Mayflower when it landed at Plymouth Rock, today more than 35 million people may have an ancestral lineage. Many of these links are through their wives, daughters, granddaughters and other females of subsequent generations, which increases the surname “pool” exponentially.

Join Hot Springs Village Genealogical Society at 2 p.m. Thursday in Room 6 of the Coronado Center for “Women of the Mayflower,” an historical and genealogical program about the 30 brave females on the original voyage. This program is a new collaborative version with HSVGS, which was built upon the original presentation created by Mary Nell White.

Nell is a graduate of Newcomb College, Tulane University and has a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University. She has worked as a financial consultant and operated her own import business. She is known in genealogical and lineage societies, belonging to 20-plus societies and has served as an officer in most.

HSVGS meets the first Thursday of each month, September through May. There is a breakfast meeting at 9 a.m. the third Thursday of every month at Debra’s Restaurant on Carmona Road where topics of interest are informally shared and discussed. Visitors from outside the Village can get passes and directions at either the East or West gate. Call Barbara Pinkney at 915-8446 for details.
