Badgers crush Cobras at home

ARKADELPHI­A — Fountain Lake didn’t become Arkadelphi­a’s fourth shutout victim of the season. But nothing much else good happened for the Cobras Friday night at Badger Stadium.

Uner the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n mercy rule, Arkadelphi­a led 64-7 after three quarters of the 4A-7 game. The Badgers were rolling to their fifth victory in six games, bouncing back from a 21-17 road loss to undefeated Robinson. Fountain Lake was heading to its fourth consecutiv­e defeat, third in conference play. The Cobras play Bauxite at home next week.

Fountain Lake dented the scoreboard on Stephen Turner’s 37-yard pass to Parion Johnson late in the first quarter, Dustin Pitts adding the extra point. Turner was the victim of Dillon Scott’s 40-yard intercepti­on return for an Arkadelphi­a touchdown with 6:05 before halftime, at which time it was 57-7.

Zion Hatley, two weeks after suffering a concussion against Nashville, returned in force with four touchdowns in the first quarter and 148 yards in the half. Hatley had consecutiv­e scoring runs of 26, 5, 21 and 69 yards in the first 8:25 of clock time. Jack Burnham scored from three yards out before Turner connected with Johnson.

Earnest Young ran 11 yards for a third-period touchdown.

Cannon Turner passed 12 yards to Logan Lucas for an Arkadelphi­a touchdown with 9:53 before halftime. Cannon Turner completed seven of 14 yards for 86 yards with one intercepti­on in the half, also running for 88 yards. Stephen Turner went eight of 19 for 122 yards with two intercepti­ons, Parion Johnson with four catches for 100 yards.
