Badgers crush Cobras at home
ARKADELPHIA — Fountain Lake didn’t become Arkadelphia’s fourth shutout victim of the season. But nothing much else good happened for the Cobras Friday night at Badger Stadium.
Uner the Arkansas Activities Association mercy rule, Arkadelphia led 64-7 after three quarters of the 4A-7 game. The Badgers were rolling to their fifth victory in six games, bouncing back from a 21-17 road loss to undefeated Robinson. Fountain Lake was heading to its fourth consecutive defeat, third in conference play. The Cobras play Bauxite at home next week.
Fountain Lake dented the scoreboard on Stephen Turner’s 37-yard pass to Parion Johnson late in the first quarter, Dustin Pitts adding the extra point. Turner was the victim of Dillon Scott’s 40-yard interception return for an Arkadelphia touchdown with 6:05 before halftime, at which time it was 57-7.
Zion Hatley, two weeks after suffering a concussion against Nashville, returned in force with four touchdowns in the first quarter and 148 yards in the half. Hatley had consecutive scoring runs of 26, 5, 21 and 69 yards in the first 8:25 of clock time. Jack Burnham scored from three yards out before Turner connected with Johnson.
Earnest Young ran 11 yards for a third-period touchdown.
Cannon Turner passed 12 yards to Logan Lucas for an Arkadelphia touchdown with 9:53 before halftime. Cannon Turner completed seven of 14 yards for 86 yards with one interception in the half, also running for 88 yards. Stephen Turner went eight of 19 for 122 yards with two interceptions, Parion Johnson with four catches for 100 yards.
