CBD presentation set for Coronado Center
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — A presentation on health advantages of using cannabidiol as an alternative to opioids will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in Room 5 of the Coronado Center, 160 Ponderosa Lane.
The presentation is by Toni Hobbs and Shirley Roddenberry, who say findings in a new study suggest that cannabidiol, a natural non-psychoactive cannabinoid, could help people who have become dependent on opioids.
Part of Terry to close for wastewater repair
Terry Street, from Seneca Street to Golf Links Road, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday for wastewater repair.
Signs will be posted, and motorists will need to seek an alternate route during street closure.
DTF board to meet Tuesday
The 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force Board of Directors will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Garland County Sheriff’s Department Conference Room, 525 Ouachita Ave.
Rabies vaccinations to be offered Saturday
Hot Springs Animal Services will host a second rabies vaccination drive from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Transportation Depot, 100 Broadway Terrace.
Rabies vaccinations will be offered for $5, and microchips for $20. Animal licenses, required by city ordinance, will also be sold. The license fee is $10 per year for an unfixed pet, or $20 for a fixed pet (lifetime) license.
In the event a pet is lost and turned in to Animal Services, a license can promptly reunite the pet with its owner, the city said in a news release. Proof of rabies vaccination from a licensed vet is required in order to obtain a license. Licenses are also sold at the Hot Springs Animal Shelter on weekdays from noon until 5 p.m.
School board meetings scheduled this week
Magnet Cove School District will be holding its annual report to the public and regular scheduled board meeting beginning at
6 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria of Magnet Cove Elementary School,
22083 Highway 51.
The Lake Hamilton School District will present its annual report to the public and hold a regular monthly board meeting at
7 p.m. Monday in the board room of the administration building,
205 Wolf St.
The Hot Springs School Board will hold its monthly meeting and annual report to the public Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the board room of the Jones School Historic Building, 400 Linwood Ave.
Chamber to hold annual Job Fair
The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Job Fair in conjunction with the Business Expo from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Hot Springs Convention Center, Halls C and D.
The Job Fair will provide access to employers seeking talented candidates in every discipline, from hospitality and health care to finance, education, telecommunications and everything in between.
“The Hot Springs Job Fair will bring together local businesses and our community’s skilled workforce to help businesses grow and positively impact Garland county’s economic vitality,” President and CEO Gary Troutman said in a news release.
“Job Fairs help local businesses find qualified job seekers in the community which creates opportunities for Garland County residents to work close to home. This not only supports our economy, it also reduces the need for residents to commute long distances and work outside of their community.”

Upcoming blood drives scheduled for HS, HSV
Arkansas Blood Institute will conduct blood drives at the following locations and times during the week:
• Tuesday — 8 a.m. to noon, Hot Springs Village, Coronado Center.
• Wednesday — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mercy Room (next to cafeteria), CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs,
300 Werner St.
• Thursday — 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mercy Room, CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs, 300 Werner St.
• Sunday, Oct. 22 — 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Christian Life Center, First United Methodist Church, 1100 Central Ave.
All donors will receive a Hog Wild for Arkansas T-shirt, Donor Reward Points, a free health screening, refreshments, learn their blood type, and be entered into a drawing for an iPad at each blood drive. All blood donations support the two local acute-care hospitals, and some goes to hurricane relief in Texas. Donating takes about 45 minutes, and donations can credit any patient in any hospital.
