After enlisting in the Army at 16, he proudly served during the Korean War. After his military service, he spent many years in Arkansas as a transportation industry professional. In his spare time, he was president of the Booster Club and transportation coordinator for the “Arkansas Diamonds,” a professional football team in Little Rock. He was an avid collector of 16 mm films, especially his beloved Western films and serials like Red Ryder, Black Arrow and Hopalong Cassidy. His amazing in-depth knowledge of films led to his selection to run the film distribution department for Kit Parker Films in Monterey, Calif. He also served as production assistant for several films as well. He was fondly known as the “Keeper of the Films.” After retiring to Hot Springs, Ark., he became a founding member of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. For many years, his film industry and equipment knowledge were invaluable to the festival.

He shared his passion with friends and family with many a night watching a special old movie in his screening room. He was proud to establish a “Varnedore” Family brick as a founding supporter of the Clinton Presidential Center. He was especially fond of sharing life stories with his children and grandchildren, and of course watching the Arkansas Razorbacks and WWE.

He imparted his special brand of wisdom to his children and grandchildren, especially his motto, TCB, or “Take Care of Business.” He taught those close to him to love others, take care of yourself and to be accountable. Long known for his pragmatism and keen sense of humor, not much ever got by him without a witty retort. He kept everyone on their toes.
