Reddies down SEMO, extend road streak to 30

DURANT, Okla. — Henderson State’s football team hasn’t won at home this season, but the Reddies are road warriors supreme.

The Reddies extended their NCAA Division II-record road winning streak to 30 games with Saturday’s 21-20 decision over previously unbeaten Southeaste­rn Oklahoma. Henderson fought back from a 17-0 deficit, taking a 2117 lead on Blake Faulk’s one-yard run with 14:02 left in the game.

Southeaste­rn’s Joel Carlos added a 36-yard field goal, but the Savage Storm were scoreless for the last 10:28. Henderson kept the ball for the last 7:21, Evan Lassiter passing 33 yards to Fernando Van Hook on third and 19 and Faulk gaining the needed four yards on a fourth-down gamble.

Lassister passed for 316 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Austin Bennett from 11 yards out with 3:11 left in the third quarter. The Reddies drove 42 yards in seven plays for their go-ahead touchdown.

Southeaste­rn scored 17 points in the first 10:32, Rashod Polk with a pair of short touchdown runs and Carlos a 36-yard field goal.

Julio Cervantes kicked field goals of 21 and 22 yards, making it

17-6, before Henderson scored its first touchdown.

Henderson is 4-3 in the Great American Conference with East Central coming to Carpenter-Haygood Stadium in Arkadelphi­a on Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff. Southeaste­rn is 6-1 before Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game in Magnolia against Southern Arkansas.
