SPSF presents fall scholarships
The board of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County recently hosted a reception at Mid-America Science Museum for students who received scholarships for the fall semester.
Recipients and their families were invited to attend. Carla Mouton, chairwoman of the board, presented opening remarks and several students shared their stories.
The committee approved 24 students to receive scholarship awards totaling $17,500. Students enrolled in college full-time received $750 and part-time students received $500.
The recipients were Michelle Berg, Stacy Blake, Amanda DeLoff, Brittney Estes, Lisa Evans, Terra Ford, Kristi Freeman, Chris Hall, Patience Hanlin, Amanda Huggins, Leslie Jones, Tasha Jones, Searci Moore, Goleta Morrow, Jessica Russell, Daniel Schrader, Raquel Smalling, Bobbi Songer, Samantha Spradling, Blanca Villatoro, Latisha Walker, Somone Warner, Toni Watson and Jamie Williams.
The Single Parent Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 to enable single parents attain self-sufficiency through postsecondary education. Sponsorships and donations from the organization’s annual style show in April help fund the scholarships.
Sponsors include the Arkansas Department of Education, Entergy, the Morris Foundation, Virginia Clinton Kelley Democratic Women’s Club, the Munro Foundation, Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church of Hot Springs, 501 Prime and the Hot Springs Sunrise Rotary Club.
