Kudos for animal control

-

Dear editor:

Unlike the previous writers, I would like to commend Dan Bugg and animal control for what I consider swift, effective and vigorous action concerning the “Cat Lady” on Cooper Street. While I don’t live there, my family owns several properties, which we attempt to maintain in a clean and sanitary fashion. The conditions were exactly as described — filthy, cats roaming everywhere. Several persons who lease from us had voiced their concerns to us.

As another letter writer stated, some people choose not to own pets (we actually don’t lease to pet owners), and it is an infringement on their rights when someone can’t control theirs from urinating, defecating and damaging personal property.

The problem is not with Bugg; rather than outdated and ineffective ordinances that could put an end to this. The city council and quorum court have been extremely incompetent in putting into place anything to prevent this.

I checked and it is true: this “Cat Lady” has been cited dozens of times, she owes fines, and the police and courts are powerless to enforce them or arrest her. That is the real problem.

Thank you, Mr. Bugg, and I only ask that you and the fine officers remain vigilant. Keep the traps in place, check them and rid this neighborhood of this problem.
