Troy mistakes trigger White Hall rout

Turnovers plagued Hot Springs from the start Friday night as White Hall rolled to a

47-14 triumph at Reese Memorial Stadium.

“We had five turnovers in the first half,” said Trojan head coach Chris Vereen. “Two of them were touchdowns, and two more of the five turned into 14 points for them. That’s 28 points off turnovers.”

The Bulldogs scored six touchdowns in the first half to lead 40-7.

After trailing 47-7, Hot Springs scored on a two-yard run by Damien Walker with Christian Jovel kicking to set the final. Walker also scored the first touchdown for the Trojans, a 59yard run for a 20-7 deficit with

11:49 left in the first half.

Hot Springs had a strong start, moving the ball 37 yards on a 12-play taking 7:39 off the clock before stalling at the White Hall 21.

White Hall scored its first touchdown with just over two minutes left in the opening quarter on a five-yard run with failed conversion. The Bulldogs scored twice in the final minute of the period, Jabin Gulley returning a fumble 56 yards and C.J. Collins kicking it to 20-0.

Walker led the Trojans with six carries for 108 yards, Kenny Byrd adding 56 on 14 touches and Spencer Johnson six for 41 yards.

Byrd led the Trojans defensivel­y with five tackles, Terrance Floyd and Devin Hill with four each.

White Hall’s Ollie Reddick completed seven of 11 passing for

116 yards, Austin Terrell catching two for 36 and Jabari Blackmon one for 25. Rod Shelby II led the Bulldogs with nine for 94 yards, Reddick adding 39 on three carries.

Hot Springs (1-8, 1-5 in 5A South) travels to Camden Fairview Friday, White Hall (6-3, 3-3) hosts Hope.
