Ouachita Department of Music to present chamber ensemble concerts

ARKADELPHI­A — Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Music will present two chamber ensemble concerts Nov. 1-2 in McBeth Recital Hall.

The concert on Nov. 1 will be held at 8 p.m. and showcase brass instrument­s, while the Nov. 2 concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. and showcase woodwinds. The concerts are free and open to the public.

“These concerts are unique because you will hear a variety of ensembles and music,” Heather Thayer, assistant professor of music at Ouachita, said. “There are several different instrument­s performing many different styles of music.”

The brass concert will include “Achieved Is the Glorious Work” from The Creation by Franz Joseph Haydn, “Ave Verum Corpus” by William Byrd, “Power” by John Stevens, “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl, “Hogwarts Forever” by John Williams, “Scarboroug­h Fair Revisited” by Fred W. Teuber, Edward Gogolak’s arrangemen­t of “Personet Hodie,” “Farandole” from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Georges Bizet and “Old Man March” by Robert Nagel.

The woodwinds concert will include “Danza Ritual del Fuego” by Manuel de Falla, Quintet Op. 124 by Giulio Briccialdi, “Andante” and “Allegro Marziale” from “Annen-Polka op. 137” by Johann Strauss, String Quintet in G minor K 516 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Quatour pour Flutes” by Pierra Max Dubois and “A Gaelic Offering” by Catherine McMichael.

Members of the second woodwind ensemble include Lydia Poole, a freshman music education major from Hot Springs, on horn. Members of the third woodwind ensemble include Tiffany Dee, a sophomore finance major from Pearcy. Members of the first brass section include Bryson Clegg, a music and political science double major from Malvern. Members of the second brass section include Seth Caraway, a sophomore music industry major from Hot Springs, and Tyler Sanders, a junior music industry major from Arkadelphi­a.
