She was born on Aug. 3, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Joseph and Mary Szczesny. Whether one saw her as stubborn and argumentative or caring and giving (maybe a little of both), everyone knew how much Helen loved them. Helen was happiest during big gatherings of her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jack Schultz (Candice), Andrew Schultz (Sandra), Mary Ellen Mayes (Harold), Lisa Hammons (Chad); sisters, Rose Podlesny and Betty Wolfe; four grandchildren, Walter Schultz (Angela), Regina Schultz, Alex Mayes, Stephanie Mayes; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Schultz, Joseph Mayes; and many other extended family members and friends.
