Sex offender sentenced for failing to register
A convicted sex offender was sentenced to three years in prison Monday after pleading guilty in Garland County Circuit Court to failing to register and violation of his probation.
Daniel Clayton Nobles, 30, pleaded guilty to a felony count of failure to comply with sex offender registration and reporting requirements, failure to appear and violating his probation from a prior conviction in 2016 on the same charge, and was sentenced to three years on each count, to run concurrently.
According to the affidavits, on June 4, 2015, Hot Springs police Detective LeeAnn Zaner was notified Nobles, a level 1 registered sex offender, was not living at the Hallman Street address he had provided to police on May 12, 2015. She was told Nobles had been living at an apartment complex on Cozy Acres Road for the last three weeks despite being banned from the property by security. Other tenants reported he was continuing to sneak onto the property every day.
That same day, Zaner made contact with Nobles’ grandmother at the Hallman Street address, and she stated Nobles had left her residence two weeks prior and had not returned or contacted her since he moved out.
A warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to register and he was taken into custody on July 6, 2015, and later released on bond. He pleaded guilty to the charge on July 18, 2016, and was sentenced to three years’ supervised probation, fined $1,000 and ordered to
pay $420 in court costs.
The next day, on July 19, 2016, Nobles came to the police department and again listed the Hallman Street residence as his address and was informed he would need to return on Nov. 5, 2016, to confirm his address.
As of Nov. 16, 2016, he had failed to come in or contact police to verify his address and a computer check confirmed he had not made contact with any other law enforcement agencies to do so.
A warrant was issued for his address and he was arrested again on Jan. 12, 2017, and later released on $2,500 bond. Meanwhile, his probation officer had filed a petition to show cause to violate Nobles’ probation for testing positive for narcotics on multiple occasions, failure to complete required counseling sessions, failing to make any payments toward the $1,420 in fines or court costs he owed and because of his arrest on the new charge.
On May 22, 2017, Nobles failed to appear at his scheduled hearing in circuit court on his Jan. 12 arrest so a warrant was issued for his arrest and his bond was revoked.
He was arrested again Sept. 18 and has remained in custody since.
