California felon arrested after Indiandale shooting to be arraigned
A convicted felon from California arrested last week after he was allegedly found in possession of a handgun following a reported shooting outside a local apartment complex is set to be arraigned today in Garland County District Court.
Michael Anthony Correa, 30, who lists a San Francisco address, was taken into custody on Oct. 25 and charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm by certain persons, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He was later released on $10,000 bond pending today’s hearing.
According to the affidavit, around 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 25, Hot Springs police Cpl. Allen Constant was responding to the Indiandale Apartments, 105 Lowery St., regarding shots fired and spoke to multiple witnesses from the 200 block of Vista Street who had seen two men running from that area shortly after the shots were heard.
One of the men was reportedly
wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Upon his arrival in the area, Constant located a man matching the description, later identified as Correa, hiding under a bush on Vista Street.
Approximately 3 feet from Correa, the officer allegedly found a loaded 9-mm handgun covered in leaves behind the wheel of a car. The 9-mm rounds in the gun were noted to be similar to 9-mm casings found outside the Indiandale apartments, where at least two vehicles had been struck by gunfire.
A computer check revealed Correa was previously convicted of a felony in San Francisco County on July 9, 2007.
Correa was brought in for questioning and reportedly denied being in possession of the gun found and denied “having anything to do with” the incident at Indiandale.
