Voices Rising ensemble to present Christmas concert
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The premier ensemble Voices Rising will open the Christmas season with a full concert of holiday music at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Village United Methodist Church. Admission is free; donations will be accepted.
This Monday program will begin with a holiday madrigal number complete with instrumental accompaniments on drums, the triangle, and hand bells provided by Voices Rising members Carmen Edwards, Ruth’ e Korelitz, and Nikki Saltmarsh. Other guest instrumentalists will join the concert, including, on guitar, Terry Odell; Celtic harp, David Childs; and flute, Marilyn Antley. Numbers from “The Messiah,” classical Christmas tunes, and popular holiday favorites will thrill and inspire listeners of all ages and set the tone for the entire Christmas season, a news release said.
Interspersed in the concert will be comedic moments taken “very seriously” by Voices Rising, including a four-handed piano rendition of “Jingle Bells” in 5/8 time by Saltmarsh and Fran Stroud, and a souped-up version of “The Little Drummer Boy,” complete with a drummer girl, Hot Spring Village’s very own Lee Ann Branch, a news release said.
Korelitz and Marc Bremer will each share inspiring solos, as well as a hand bell solo by Saltmarsh. This high-quality, inspiring, and energetic holiday concert will conclude with an audience participation singing of “Peace, Peace” and “Silent Night.”
