NIANTIC, Conn. — Arthur Womack Jr. “June” passed to eternal life on Nov. 13, 2017.

Arthur was born on Aug.

22, 1923, to Arthur and Idabel Womack of Floydada, Texas, the second of 11 children. He grew up in Floydada and graduated from high school in 1941.

On Aug. 2, 1946, Arthur married Jimmie D. Hicks, also of Floydada. Three children were born of this union; Jimmy Lane Womack (spouse Kathie Womack), of Los Alamos, N.M., Terry J. Womack, of Niantic, Conn., and Wendy S. Elam (spouse Bruce Elam), of Niantic, Conn.

He joined the U.S. Navy in

1943, serving his country honorably as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class aboard a YMS 180 in the South Pacific around the Philippine Islands. Arthur worked as a high voltage electrical engineer in Plainview, Texas, before moving to Hot Springs, Ark., where he was employed at the U.S. Air Force Base in Jacksonvil­le. On Nov. 20, 1986, he was awarded the 314th Tactical Airlift Wing Civilian Employee in a ceremony in St Louis, Mo. Upon retirement, he moved to Niantic, Conn.

Arthur was a member of the Niantic Sportsman’s Club and the 5th CT. Volunteer Infantry N.SSA 172 EN. He loved working with wood in the two-story barn he built making furniture and many other beautiful treasures for his family and friends. Art was an avid fan of the Connecticu­t Huskies Women’s Basketball Team.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 71 years, his three children (spouses), six grandchild­ren, nine great-grandchild­ren, and two great-great-grandchild­ren.

Arthur is predecease­d by two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by three brothers and three sisters.
