The Sentinel-Record

Second novel published by Hot Springs rap artist

-

Local rapper Joe Young, also known as Black Male, recently released his second novel, “Da Rap Game,” published by IUniverse.

According to a news release containing a synopsis on the novel, it features teenager Jalil Jackson and reveals “the truth about rap music.”

Jackson was influenced by his older brother to be a rap artist and, through experience, discovered that being a rapper wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be. He later befriended another teenager from New Orleans, Kamofloge, described as “a loyal friend and a deadly enemy” who would eliminate anyone that threatened him or his friends.

After becoming financially stable, Jackson put everything he had into his music, taking a risk that most other teens wouldn’t dream of taking. He later entered a local talent show organized by a New York producer and was labeled “the best rapper in Hot Springs.”

After struggling to land a record deal, Jackson remained independent and became widely known by selling his music on the streets. He was later attacked and almost killed for refusing an offer to sign a record deal by a group of rappers. Jackson’s friend, Kamofloge, retaliated against the group and a rap battle begun on the streets.

After recuperating from his wounds, Jackson came back stronger and exposed the group through his music.

“Music can be money if you sell it, but it can be murder if the wrong person gets jealous of you. There are a lot of people who want to be rappers, but they don’t know the business side of it. Without knowing the business, you’ll get cheated every time, so this novel is explaining the difference between being signed to a major label and staying independent. It also explains how best friends can become worst enemies in misunderstandings. This is the truth about rap music. This is what some rappers go through before becoming rich and famous,” the release said.

“Da Rap Game” is available for purchase at major book outlets.
