MILFORD — A memorial service for Fred Arndt, 72, of Milford, was held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at New Journey Community Church in Milford.

Hans “Fred” Arndt was born at Sac City, Iowa, on Dec. 4, 1944, the son of Hans and Mary ( Blanchard) Arndt. He graduated from Sac City High School and then attended community college before entering the U.S. Army in 1966. In 1968 he was honorably discharged from the military, having attained the rank of sergeant.

On Dec. 6, 1971, he married Edith Edmunds at Sac City, Iowa. The couple lived in Hot Springs, Ark., where Fred served as a deputy with the Garland County Sheriff’s Office before relocating to Milford in 2010 upon his retirement.

Fred passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, surrounded by family.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Edith; son, Shane Arndt; and six grandchild­ren Andrew, McIntyre and McCauley Arndt, and Elly, Emma and Mylee Watje. Survivors also include his brother, Victor Arndt; sister, Mary Ellen Pickinpaug­h; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Mary Arndt; two brothers, Dick and Terry Arndt; and one niece.
