HS man arrested for drug, paraphernalia possession

- GRACE BROWN

A Hot Springs man was arrested Tuesday morning after a small amount of meth and a smoking device were allegedly found inside his truck.

Noah Lynn Smith, 27, who lists a Brookhill Ranch Road address, was taken into custody on Highway 270 at approximately

8 a.m. and charged with felony counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to

20 years in prison, possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver and possession of paraphernalia, both punishable by up to six years.

He remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $11,000 bond, and was set to appear later that day in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, Arkansas State Police Cpl. Mike Reed conducted a traffic stop on a possibly intoxicated driver in a white Chevrolet Silverado with reportedly blacked out taillights and a completely tinted front windshield.

The driver, later identified as Smith, reportedly appeared to have several sores on his face and arms, consistent with habitual meth use. Reed also observed several air fresheners in the vehicle.

Smith reportedly blamed his erratic driving on the fact he was “messing with articles inside the vehicle.” When asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle, Smith stated that there was not and he had done nothing wrong.

At that point, Reed told him the stop was conducted due to the improper tint to his windshield and taillights, and once again asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle. Smith allegedly began crying and spontaneously stated he cannot go to jail.

He then reportedly admitted he was in possession of approximately 2 grams of “ice” and a pipe. Smith was detained and placed in Reed’s unit while he conducted a search of the truck. Reed reportedly found approximately 1.7 grams of suspected meth, a glass pipe and several small baggies.
