Spa City Blues Society to host Christmas party, fundraiser

-

The Spa City Blues Society will host its Christmas Party and Festival Fundraiser at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Inside Track Grill and Sports Lounge inside The Hotel Hot Springs & Spa. The event is free; but donations will be accepted at the door. The event is for all ages and open to the public.

Complimentary h’ordouvres will be served during the first hour, or until they are gone.

The evening will feature entertainment from four bands including the Spa City Youngbloods, Soaker, Lil Skinny & The Outlaws, and Cheap Thrills. Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Spa City Youngbloods is the society’s Blues In The Schools performance band and have played in several festivals including the Hot Springs Blues Festival, Dusk to Dawn Blues Festival and Hot Water Hills Music & Arts Festival.

Soaker is a new band with some familiar faces. Led by Chad Carter on guitar and vocals, the band is rounded out by Don Foshee on bass and Rafael Gayol on drums. Lil Skinny & The Outlaws features the Spa City Youngblood’s Ethan Kuntz on lead guitar and vocals. Kuntz is a high school senior who has already had several bucket list experiences including making it to Hollywood as a finalist on “American Idol.”

Closing the evening will be Cheap Thrills, a band that has recently come on to the Hot Springs music scene. The band will be representing the Arkansas River Blues Society in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn., in January.

A silent auction will be one of the highlights of the evening. Items included in the auction are a Clevenger Custom bass guitar; Clevenger Custom guitar; overnight stays at The Hotel Hot Springs & Spa, Matterhorn Towers in Eureka Springs, and The Waters Hotel; and gift certificates from several local businesses including Gio’s Paw Spa, Superior Brewery, All Things Arkansas, Spa Souvenirs & Gifts, The Inside Track and The Big Chill.

The Hotel Hot Springs is offering rooms for the evening at a special rate of $99 plus tax. When reserving a room, attendees should inform the hotel their reservation is for the SCBS Christmas party.

According to a news release, part of the purpose of this festive event is to help raise funds to offset the losses incurred from the Hot Springs Blues Festival that occurred over Labor Day weekend. Due to low attendance, the festival sustained a significant loss of revenue. The SCBS has been working diligently to overcome this deficit. Still owing several thousand dollars in expenses, the SCBS has ongoing fundraisers to bring in revenue.

Visit http://www.spacityblues.org for a detailed list of fundraising activities and event information. The SCBS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

The Inside Track will be offering drink and shot specials from the bar throughout the evening and a full menu. The SCBS will also have logo merchandise available for purchase during the event.
