Older Drivers Safety Awareness Week events slated

Older Drivers Safety Awareness Week will be recognized Dec. 4-8. Come join in for a week of informatio­n and resources that are beneficial for the older driver, presented by AOTA and CHI St. Vincent Healthsout­h Hot Springs. Classes will be held in the Community Room at Healthsout­h, 1636 Higdon Ferry Road. All classes are free except the AARP Driver Safety Course. The public is welcome.

Anticipati­ng Changes That Can Affect Driving will be presented 4 p.m. Dec. 4. Join in for a 25-minute podcast discussion with Elin Davis and Rhonda Shah. Their talk will focus on identifing changes that can affect driving.

At 5 p.m. Dec. 5 will be Family Conversati­ons. Come for a 30-minute podcast discussion with Davis and Julie Lee, where they will focus on breaching the conversati­on about the driving ability of a loved one. Resources from AOTA and AARP will be provided.

At 11 a.m. Dec. 6, there will be screening and evaluation­s. Join Davis, Anne Dickerson and Wendy Stav as they discuss what is available as far as therapy practition­ers who work with clients and their families on safe driving and community mobility.

Interventi­ons That Can Empower Drivers and Families will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 7. Participan­ts will listen to a 30-minute podcast with Davis and Donna Stressel discussing equipment that can make driving safer.

At 1 p.m. Dec. 8 will be Staying Engaged in the Community With or Without a Car. Listen as Davis, Virginia Dize and Eileen Miller discuss tips on adjusting to changes in the driving lifestyle.

An AARP Smart Driver/Driver Safety Course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 9. Cost will be 15$ for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Call 501-651-2000 to enroll.
