Reddies, Red Wolves set for exhibition

ARKADELPHI­A — Henderson State will travel to Jonesboro today as the Reddies take on NCAA Division I Arkansas State in exhibition play with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

The game marks the 10th straight year that Henderson will face the Red Wolves in exhibition play. Live statistics and video will be available through the HSU Athletics website at http:// www.hsusports.com.

The Reddies, 4-4 on the year, are coming off a 115-67 win over Dallas Christian on Wednesday in a game where six different players scored in double-figures, including Kaylon Tappin who had a game-high 30 points.

Tappin, a graduate of Little Rock Hall and a transfer from ASU-Mid-South in West Memphis, leads the Great American Conference in scoring, averaging 19.4 points per game. The senior is averaging 27.3 points in the last three games. He has scored 20 or more points five times this season and 30 or more points on three occasions.

Josh Jones, a transfer from Richmond, enters the game averaging 15.5 points, having scored in double-figures in seven of eight games this season. The junior from Memphis, Tenn., is Henderson’s top 3-point shooter, having knocked down

16 of 34 treys for 47 percent from beyond the arc. Chris Parker scored 16 points against the Crusaders on Wednesday hitting 7 of 10 field goals. The freshman from Plano, Texas, averages

10.1 points per game and ranks second in scoring among freshmen in the GAC.

Offensivel­y the Reddies average 79.0 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. Henderson hits 78 percent of its foul line attempts.

The Red Wolves are 2-6 on the season with wins over Abilene Christian and Howard, but are coming off of a 92-78 loss to UT-Martin on Tuesday. Arkansas State’s roster includes five seniors from a squad that finished 20-12 a year ago.

The Red Wolves average 72.2 points while allowing 78.2 points per contest. ASU is shooting

44 percent from the field collective­ly including 36 percent from 3-point range.
