Lakeside battles illnesses at Bryant meet

BRYANT — Illness hit Lakeside hard, keeping several swimmers at home, but the Lady Rams finished fourth in Thursday’s swim meet at Bishop Park with the Rams taking eighth.

Several Lakeside swimmers were fighting or recovering from the flu and other illnesses, leaving only 17 Lakeside swimmers to take to the pool at the meet.

Finishing behind Bryant, Benton and Magnolia, the Lady Rams earned 10 top-10 finishes at the meet.

Sarah-Marie Linneman won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:08.53 with teammate Lydia Cevela took third with a time of 1:18.04. Cevela also took ninth in the 100-meter freestyle with a 1:11.89 finish.

The girls’ 200-meter medley relay team consisting of Cevela, Nicole Burek, Linneman and Alyssandra Navarro took second with a time of 2:12.29.

Burek took second in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 26.19 seconds and was third in the 200-meter freestyle with a 2:10.51 finish.

The 200-meter freestyle relay team of Linneman, Navarro, Aishani Singh and Burek finished with a time of 2:00.02 for fifth place.

Dakota Pennington led Lakeside in the 100-meter breaststro­ke with a finish of 1:36.72 for seventh place. Singh followed for eighth with a time of 1:48.48, and Annabelle Neilson was ninth with a time of 1:48.86.

The boys team had four top-10 finishes at the meet.

Mason Vondenstei­n finished with two wins in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.69 seconds and the 100-meter backstroke at 57.13.

Aaron Navarro finished fifth in the 100-meter free-

style with a time of 57.16 and took 10th in the 200-meter breaststro­ke with a time of 1:24.27.
