Lillian V.N. Hart

Lillian Vashti Noles Hart, 93, of Hot Springs, passed away Dec. 9, 2017.

Lillian was the second of three daughters born to the late Charlie Butler Noles and Laura “Estelle” Howell Noles at the old Howell homeplace, “Under the Hill,” in Buckville, Ark. Having been born during the Great Depression, she and her sisters learned early about the importance of love of family during their many trips to California and Arizona in order for their father to find work. Their parents played games, told stories, sang songs and taught many life lessons as they made their way West and back again. At night, they camped and usually ate a meal of potatoes, onions, cornbread and sweet milk.

After graduating from Lakeside in 1943, Lillian attended Henderson State Teachers College. After a short career in teaching, she began work at The Credit Bureau of Hot Springs and met the love of her life, James Marshall Hart. Lillian and James were married at Park Place Baptist Church in Hot Springs on June 11, 1947. Together they enjoyed over 48 years of family, faith, friendship and were original members of the Hot Springs Melting Pot Society.

At 13, Lillian had found salvation in California at a tent revival and regular church attendance was very important to her. In the early 1950s, she and her family made Oaklawn Missionary Baptist Church their church home. She attended services there for more than 50 years.

Lillian will be greeted in Heaven with bouquets of daffodils by her husband, James Hart; her dear sisters, Hazel Noles Cooke and Sammie Noles Patton; and her parents, Charlie and Estelle Noles.

Lillian’s daughters, Marshalene “Marsha” Hart Edwards (Rev. Eugene Edwards) and Donna Lynn Hart; grandchildren, Donnie Lee Harris Jr., Melisa Dawn Harris Frick (Timothy Frick), Stephanie Lynn Tracy and Angela Marie Tracy Sellars (Eric Sellars); five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; church family; and many friends; cannot imagine their world without her stories, but have no doubts they will see her again one day.

A visitation in the chapel of Gross Funeral Home will be from 5-7 p.m. today, Dec. 13.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gross Funeral Home with burial at Greenwood Cemetery to follow.
