Hot Springs teams close tournament with wins

BENTON — The Hot Springs Lady Trojans closed out the Benton Holiday Classic in style Saturday afternoon.

Behind 15 points from senior guard Arianna Guinn and 13 points from sophomore guard Keindia Nevels, the Lady Trojans cruised to a 79-12 rout of Wynne at Benton High School Arena.

Hot Springs took control early with a 27-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Stretching the advantage to 51-7 at the break, the Lady Trojans coasted in the second half, scoring 28 points while surrenderi­ng just five to secure the win.

All 10 players for Hot Springs scored at least one point. Sophomore Allie Clark had 12 points, junior forwards Xavia McCoy and Jaidan Thomas each had nine points, sophomore guard Alivia Erby scored eight points, senior guard Imani Honey finished with six points, senior center Trinitee Nevels had five points, junior forward Michelle Harper scored two points and sophomore forward Iona Island recorded one point.

Now 9-3 on the season, the Lady Trojans will face Pea Ridge in the first round of the Kameron Hale Invitation­al on Dec. 28 at Lake Hamilton’s Wolf Arena.

Boys

Eddie Miles paced Hot Springs as the Trojans rolled to a 5243 win over Sheridan in the Benton Holiday Classic Saturday at Benton High School Arena.

Miles put up 19 points for the Trojans while teammates Santi Thomas and Payton Hayes added 10 apiece.

Taking an 11-7 lead in the opening quarter, the Trojans were slowed in the second, but they were able to hold a slight lead into the break, 20-18. Both teams added 13 in the third period before Hot Springs put the game away in the final frame behind 10 of 11 shooting at the free throw line.

“This was a good win against at tough Sheridan team,” said head coach Rodney Echols, whose team was 12-19 overall from the charity stripe.

The Trojans (6-6) will travel to Paris, Texas, for a tournament next week during the holiday break.
