Senior Cobras best Bigelow in Classic

BIGELOW — Fountain Lake senior high teams took both matchups with Bigelow on Wednesday in the Perry County Classic after the junior high teams lost their games to start the day.

The senior boys of Fountain Lake (9-4) took control of their game with the Panthers in the first quarter to lead 18-9 after the first quarter and

35-21 at halftime. The lead was stretched to 54-29 after the third quarter before the Cobras sealed the 63-41 win.

Junior Joe Murphy led the Cobras with 13 points and senior Parion Johnson had 12. Junior guard Addison Brown led Bigelow and all scorers with 16 points.

The Lady Cobras (6-7) had a tougher time fending off their opponents. Fountain Lake trailed

9-8 after the first quarter, but the game was tied

19-19 at halftime.

The visitors took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Bigelow (4-7) 15-8. The Lady Panthers outscored Fountain Lake 17-14 in the final quarter, but fell 48-44.

Senior forward Isabelle Baker led all scorers with 20 points. Sophomore guard Jill Norman added nine points.

Junior high

Both of Fountain Lake’s junior high teams dropped their contests. The boys lost 39-29, and the girls lost 58-38.

Bigelow outscored Fountain Lake (3-7) 23-11 in the second to pull away for the win. Landin Kizer and Asa Westerman led the junior Cobras in scoring with seven apiece.

Bigelow’s junior high girls led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 33-15 at the end of the first half. The Lady Panthers continued to pull away, outscoring the Lady Cobras 25-23 in the second half.

All four Fountain Lake teams traveled to Perryville on Thursday for the second day of the tournament.

Jessievill­e-Caddo Hills

CADDO GAP — Jessievill­e made up for a rough third quarter in the final eight minutes to hold on for a 43-41 win over the Caddo Hills Lady Indians Thursday afternoon in the Caddo Hills Classic.

Trailing 29-24 after three quarters, the Lady Lions were down by nine points with 3:30 remaining in the game.

“We changed our defense a little bit (from that point),” said Lady Lions head coach Magen Scrivner. “We started getting after it. We forced some turnovers, and we hit some big shots in the stretch.”

Jessievill­e finished with 19 fourth-quarter points while allowing 12 for the Lady Indians to secure the win.

Caddo Hills took the early lead, 15-14 after one, but the Lady Lions were able to recover to take a 21-19 buffer into the locker room.

The host team came out hot in the second quarter, holding the Lady Lions to a mere three points in the third.

“We just kind of went into a lull in scoring,” said Lady Lions head coach Magen Scrivner of the third-quarter slump. “We got in foul trouble a little bit. We quit attacking the basket.”

Taryn Anderson paced the Lady Lions with 14 points, Makayla Wilson adding 13. Lilliana Fehrenbach­er added six, Jaidyn Fortenberr­y four and Lexi Bassett, Amy De Haas and Cassidy Tucker two each.

Jessievill­e (5-7) will face Murfreesbo­ro at 2:45 p.m. in the final day of the tournament.
