Eagles erupt for blowout victories

CADDO HILLS — Sophomore guard Ryan Brown tallied

46 points in two games at the Caddo Hills Classic as Cutter Morning Star notched two victories by a combined 68 points last week.

Cutter Morning Star (9-4) won the opening boys game of the tournament on Thursday

75-32 over Mount Ida (0-3). The Eagles followed up the win with a 74-49 victory over Mineral Springs (3-4) on Friday.

Brown led all scorers in both games. He finished the Mount Ida game with 21 points, 10 steals, four rebounds and three assists.

The Eagles pounced on the Lions early to lead 24-8 after the first quarter. They led 48-25 by halftime and 69-28 after holding Mount Ida to three points in the third quarter. They finished with a 29-11 margin in rebounds.

Junior guard Rhett Barrett scored 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting, including 3-for-3 from outside the arc. Senior center Mason Treat added 10 points on

5-for-7 shooting.

Barrett and Treat tied with sophomore forward Ethan Dixon to lead the team with five rebounds apiece. Junior guard Chase Hendrix finished with nine points on 3-for-5 shooting from distance. Barrett, Brown and Hendrix each had three assists.

Brown shot 3-for-5 on 3-pointers and 8-for-14 on free throws in a 25-point effort in the win over Mineral springs. He also led the team with six assists and five steals.

The Eagles had different players score in both victories. Treat finished with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds against Mineral Springs.

Sophomore center Chris Kennedy had eight points and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Colby Heaton finished with seven points, four assists and three rebounds. Senior forward Jaylen Puckett added seven points and four rebounds.

Cutter Morning Star will host Maumelle Charter (12-10) tonight.

Lake Hamilton junior boys

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton’s junior high boys took fourth place in the Kameron Hale Invitation­al last week.

The junior Wolves knocked off Malvern, 36-23, in the first round on Thursday in the Lake Hamilton High School gymnasium. Lake Hamilton led 8-3 after the first quarter and 16-10 at halftime before taking control in the third quarter by outscoring Malvern 12-3.

Destin Rhodes was named the team’s most valuable player in the win with 6-for-8 shooting at the free throw line.

“Destin played a solid all around game for us on both ends of the floor,” said assistant coach Darren Cannon. “He was really aggressive on the boards and was able to get some easy put backs on the offensive end.”

Carson Harris added eight points.

“We came out a little flat to start the game, but that is to be expected coming off of the holiday break,” Cannon said. “We really picked up the intensity in the second half and were able to pull away for the win.”

Centerpoin­t topped Lake Hamilton 42-30 on Friday to book a place in the finals on Saturday. Seth Sassaman led Lake Hamilton with nine points and Gavin Robbins added six.

Benton bested the junior Wolves 39-25 in the third-place game Saturday. Lake Hamilton trailed 14-11 at halftime after being held scoreless in the second quarter.

Cade Robinson led the team in scoring with six points. Austin Hale and J.T. Bardwell added five points each. Sassaman represente­d Lake Hamilton on the all-tournament team.

The junior Wolves will resume CAJHC play Thursday at home against Little Rock Catholic.
