David M. Scudder Sr.

David Martin Scudder Sr., age 82, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1935, in Carthage, Ark., the son of Robert Lee Scudder and Mary Gertrude Rotten Scudder. On Nov. 29, 1958, he married Mary Key. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

While living in Little Rock, David was a member of Winfield-Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church for 24 years. After moving to Hot Springs, he was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist, where he was actively involved with the United Methodist Men, WOWS and held many offices within the church. He was a retired senior engineer with AT&T after 25 years of service.

David is survived by his wife, Mary Key Scudder, of Hot Springs; his son, Marty Scudder, of Rison; his daughter and son-in-law, Cherie and Bubba Ash, of Benton, La.; four grandchildren, Whitney and Kelsey Monroe, Trey and Samantha Scudder, Braylon and Lauren Ash and Tanner Ash; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Scudder and J.J. Scudder; one sister, Winnie Henry, of North Little Rock; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Piney Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Gallimore officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. until service time, at the church.

Interment will follow at Rockport Cemetery, Malvern, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Honorary pallbearers will be the United Methodist Men of Piney Grove United Methodist Church and the Monday Morning Breakfast Club at the Sunshine Store.

The family would also like to extend deep gratitude to Hospice of Central Arkansas, Home Instead Senior Care, and our friends and caregivers Lisa Abbas and Erin Oseguera.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 2963 Airport Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
