Trojan women roll over Georgia State

ATLANTA — Georgia State was no match the the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Thursday night as the Trojan women earned their third consecutiv­e double-digit victory, downing the Panthers 65-50 at GSU Sports Arena.

Ronjanae DeGray paced the Trojans (6-8, 3-0 Sun Belt) with

22 points, eight rebounds and three steals while going 9-for-14 from the field. Monique Townson finished with 18 points, a basket shy of a new career high, while padding the stat lines wiht five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Raeyana DeGray also ended up in double-digits, ending the night with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Georgia State (4-10, 0-3) was led by Kierra Henry with 17 points and four assists while Deja Mitchell had 10 points and four rebounds.

The Panthers took a 12-11 lead as the Trojans went 5-for-16 in the opening quarter, Ronjanae DeGray leading the Trojans with five points. Sister Raeyana DeGray added four with Anna Hurlburt leading the Trojans with three boards.

Trailing 10-6, Little Rock took a 5-0 run to take an 11-10 lead, but Henry put up a pair of free throws to give Georgia State the last say in the quarter.

Townson came alive in the second, scoring 11 of Little Rock’s

17 points in the quarter. The Trojans opened the quarter with a

5-1 run, but the Panthers responded with an 8-0 run of their own to go up 21-16. Little Rock finished out the half with a 12-3 run to hold a 28-24 halftime lead.

Little Rock hit eight of 16 in the third period to take a 48-37

lead over Georgia State. The Trojans took a 13-point lead for their largest spread of the period with a Townson three that made it 46-33.

The largest lead of the game for Little Rock came in the final frame as Ronjanae DeGray was fouled on a made jumper to get the three-point play for a 15-point spread. The Trojans never dropped below an 11-point lead for the remainder of the game, hitting 50 percent for the second consecutiv­e period.

The Trojans shot 42.4 percent (25-for-59) from the field while holding Georgia State to 18-for-48 (37.5 percent). Little Rock also won in rebounding (37-30), assists (14-6) and shooting at the free throw line (81.3 percent to 80 percent). Little Rock concludes its tour through the Peach State with Georgia Southern (3-11, 0-3) Saturday at 1 p.m.
