HSU women shoot for fourth straight win

DURANT, Okla. — Henderson State will attempt to win its fourth straight conference game and match its win total from a year ago as the Reddies travel to take on Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State today with tip-off set for 1 p.m.

Henderson (7-4, 3-2 in Great American Conference play) snapped a 5-game GAC road losing skid on Thursday with an 82-78 victory over East Central (4-5, 4-2). The Reddies will attempt to match their win total from a year ago as Henderson finished the 2016–17 campaign with an

8-20 record.

Live stats, audio and video streaming will also be available via the Henderson State University Athletics website at www.hsusports.com. Southeaste­rn (7-4, 5-1) trailed league leader Southweste­rn Oklahoma (10-1, 5-0) by one game.

Pink Jones leads Henderson, averaging 15.2 points per game following her 25-point performanc­e on Thursday. The sophomore from Fayettevil­le is one of three Reddies averaging 15 or more points against GAC opponents, scoring

15.8 points in league play. Last year, Jones scored

20 points and had 10 rebounds in Durant against Southeaste­rn.

Haleigh Henson is averaging 14.1 points per game including 15.0 points in GAC play. The senior from Fort Smith averages three assists per game and is Henderson’s top 3-point shooter, having knocked down 32-of-94 trifectas.

Hailey Estes recorded her second double-double of the year on Thursday with 16 points and 14 rebounds against East Central. The sophomore from Conway averages 11.4 points per game along with 8.1 rebounds, which ranks fifth in the GAC. Estes totaled 29 points and 17 rebounds in the two games last year against the Savage Storm.

The Reddies average 72.8 points per game,

77.8 in GAC games, and allow just 67.4 points per game to its opponents and 71.4 in GAC play. As a team, Southeaste­rn averages 67 points per game, while allowing just 63.6 points, which ranks third in the GAC.

The Savage Storm is led by junior Katie Webb, who averages 18.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Webb has not played in the last two games.

Senior Emem David averages 11.5 points and

9.5 rebounds per game, including an 11-point,

11-rebound performanc­e on Thursday against Ouachita Baptist. The Reddies will also have to contend with Alix Robinson, who is the squad’s top 3-point shooter. The sophomore averages

9.1 points per game and shoots 35 percent from behind the arc converting on 28 of 79 attempts.

Henderson and Southeaste­rn meet today for the 16th time in a series that dates back to 1984. The Savage Storm leads the series with an 8-7 record. Since the two teams became members of the GAC, they have split the series all six years.
