Car strikes pedestrian in Walmart parking lot

A Hot Springs woman was reportedly struck by a car Sunday evening in the parking lot of Walmart, but was not seriously injured.

According to a Hot Springs police crash report, shortly after 7 p.m., Christine Blackman, 50, was in the marked pedestrian crosswalk in front of the store, located at 1601 Albert Pike, when she was hit by a 2012 Ford Focus driven by Robert Carson Christopher, 65, of Sheridan.

Christopher was reportedly driving south in the lot and struck Blackman while making a lefthand turn. He told police he was traveling about 5 mph at the time and failed to see the victim because he was trying to turn on his windshield wipers.

Blackman reportedly sustained some minor injuries, but was not transported to a hospital. Christopher was cited for careless and prohibited driving.

Work on Highway 70 to close lanes this week

Construction work to widen Highway 70 will require lane closures for paving operations this week in Garland and Saline counties, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

Crews will work on Highway 70 at its intersections with Highway 88 and Highway 128, which will require flagging operations and alternating lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Saturday.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones and may want to seek alternate routes, including Highway 270.
