The Rev. Roy Carlton Bettis, age 80, of Hot Springs, passed away on Jan. 11, 2018. He was born on July 1, 1937, to the late Algie Thomas Bettis and Lois Holloway Bettis. He married the love of his life, Rene Bettis, on April 19, 1959.

Roy was a graduate of Sparkman High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, departing as a petty officer second class in 1959. He graduated from Western Apostolic Bible College in Stockton, Calif., in 1963 and was president of the student body.

Roy was founding pastor of the United Pentecosta­l Church in both Smackover and El Dorado, Ark. He was also a pioneering missionary, starting churches in Adelaide, Australia, Guam and Micronesia. In retirement, he spent time with Rene traveling and doing many work projects at “the ranch.”

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cardinal Bettis, James Rogers, Bernard Rogers and Dale Bettis; and sister, Merle Banski.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Rene Bettis, of Hot Springs; his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leland Roy Bettis (Melissa) of Phoenix, Ariz., and J. Carr Bettis of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchild­ren, Parker Bettis, Ha’ani Bettis, Sierra Bettis, Chelsea San Nicolas, Sydney Bettis, Reilly Bettis and Carly Bettis; brother, Roland Bettis, of Magnolia and brother, Kenneth Bettis (Sharon), of Donaldson; nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Pallbearer­s will be Parker Bettis, Tony Bettis, Rob Peryon, Jon Frey, Ronnie Rogers and Dave Toves. Honorary pallbearer­s are Thomas Richard, Richard Davenport, Milton Yeaman and Bobby Lackey.

The viewing will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan.16, 2018, with the Rev. Dennis Anderson and the Rev. Richard Price officiatin­g.

Military honors will be conducted by U.S. Navy following services at the church.

Interment will follow at Sparkman Memorial Cemetery in Sparkman, Ark.
