MALVERN — Edgar G. Simmons, of Malvern, passed away Jan. 14, 2018, at the VA hospital in Little Rock.

Edgar was born to the late C.C. and Myrtle Stokes Simmons in Nashville, Ark., on March 10, 1928. As a young man, Edgar served our great nation as a petty officer third class in the United States Navy and also served in the U.S. Army. Edgar and his wife, Ruth, owned and operated a photograph­y and wedding business that they ran together. Edgar was a dedicated child of God who enjoyed church worship and spreading the word of God as a preacher, associate preacher and deacon for many years. Edgar was a family man who loved being at home with his family or anywhere with his late wife Ruth. He also enjoyed taking family trips to Branson, fishing, gardening and woodworkin­g.

Edgar is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Simmons; his parents, C.C. and Myrtle Simmons; his brothers, Bailis and Billy Simmons; and four sisters, Ruth Hutson, Ella Fair Simmons, Mae Chatman and Buletha Simmons.

Edgar leaves behind his son, Chris Simmons, of Malvern; his sister, Barbara (Harold) Robertson, of Malvern; his brother, Tom (Joyce) Simmons, of Hot Springs; his sisters-in-law, Gail Simmons and Patricia Simmons, both of Malvern, Brenda Simmons, of Pine Bluff; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at the Atkinson Funeral Home chapel with Sam Carman officiatin­g. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery.

The family would also like to send a special “Thank you” to the North Little Rock V.A. floor 3-C.
