Battle of the Ravine, local high school games rescheduled
ARKADELPHIA — Snow and ice that blanketed the region late Monday night and early Tuesday morning led to the cancellation of classes at both Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist as well as the 105th meeting of the basketball edition of the Battle of the Ravine.
Set for a 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Bill Vining Arena for the women’s and men’s games, respectively, officials at OBU made the call Tuesday morning to cancel the first of two meetings of the basketball teams this season. The universities rescheduled the games for next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Officials at both schools were unable to determine if weather had forced the game to be rescheduled in the past.
Henderson State now turns its attention to Thursday’s home skirmish against the Harding Bisons. Tip-off for the women’s game is set for 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
The Tigers now look to Thursday’s road game at Southern Arkansas in Magnolia. Tip-off for the women’s game is set for 5:30 p.m. with the men’s at 7:30 p.m. in the W.T. Watson Center.
National Park College’s road game Tuesday at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge was postponed until 7 p.m. Monday. The men’s basketball game scheduled for Tuesday with Champion Christian College at Arkansas Baptist College was also postponed.
Area high schools were also affected by the weather, forcing local conference and rivalry games to be rescheduled as well.
Fountain Lake was set to travel to Arkadelphia for a conference match. The games were tentatively scheduled for tonight.
Jessieville, who was set to host Bismarck Tuesday, has moved the matchup to Monday.
Tuesday night’s cross-county tilt between Lake Hamilton and Hot Springs has been moved to Jan. 25 at Hot Springs.
Magnet Cove was scheduled to host Maumelle Charter Tuesday. The games have been rescheduled for Jan. 26.
Officials from Cutter Morning Star and Mountain Pine planned to meet today to determine a new date for their games. Matchups with Gurdon at Malvern and Lakeside at De Queen were also postponed. Lakeside’s wrestling matches at Central Arkansas Christian scheduled for Tuesday were canceled.
