Lady Rams down Lady Panthers

Less than a week before the start of the 5A-South conference tournament, Lakeside’s senior girls got back on track against visiting Magnolia Tuesday night.

Leading 10- 8 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Rams rode a 19-4 second-quarter run to a 29-12 halftime lead before cruising to a 48-33 win at Lakeside Athletic Complex.

Improving to 17- 8 overall and 9-6 in conference, Lakeside hosts De Queen (18-6, 12-3) in its regular season finale Friday night.

Chloe Porter led all scorers with 21 points for the Lady

Rams, connecting on four

3- pointers. Thea Rice added nine points with nine assists and five rebounds, while Abby Mahoney scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.

Lakeside guard Ashton Patrick finished with eight points and a team- high four steals. Sophomore forward Ashanti Humbert led Magnolia (4-13,

2-11) with 13 points.

* Lakeside’s junior girls rebounded from an 18-10 halftime deficit for a 36- 34 win over Magnolia in the 5A-South junior high district tournament semifinals Monday night at De Queen.

Outscored 8-2 in the first quarter and 10-8 in the second quarter, the junior Lady Rams bounced back with a 14-5 advantage in the third period and

12-11 in the fourth period. Mady Davenport dropped

24 points to lead the junior Lady Rams, while Erika Bittinger added four points. Jaiden Drake and Sarah Porter each scored three points.

Lakeside’s junior girls will face rival Hot Springs in the championsh­ip game at 5: 30 p.m. tonight.

CENTERPOIN­T-GENOA CENTRAL

COVE — After a fast start, Centerpoin­t’s senior girls ran out of gas in the second half against Genoa Central Tuesday night.

Leading 25- 19 after two quarters, the Lady Knights were held to just 15 points in the second half as the Lady Dragons stormed back for a

43-40 win in the first round of the 3A-7 district tournament at Cossatot River.

Keasha Owens and Leonia Partain each connected on a

3-pointer in the first quarter, while Cortney Samuel and Jaide Vavra combined for 10 points to give Centerpoin­t an early 17-10 lead.

Behind seven points from Victoria Hill, Genoa Central outscored the Lady Knights 9-8 in the second quarter to pull within 25-19 at the half before Carly Wood took over the third period.

The senior guard buried three shots from behind the arc in the frame and the Lady Dragons outscored Centerpoin­t 17-8 to take a 36-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

Samuel and Vavra combined for seven points in the final frame to keep things interestin­g, but the Lady Knights were unable to close the gap. Genoa Central hit 5 of 7 shots from the free throw line down the stretch to preserve the lead.

Hill led all scorers with

17 points, and Wood finished with 14 points, including four

3-pointers. Vavra paced Centerpoin­t with 13 points and Samuel scored 11 points.

The Lady Knights ended the season with a record of 16-12.

BISMARCK—HASKELL HARMONY GROVE

LITTLE ROCK — Despite a rough second quarter, Bismarck managed to hold on to advance to the semifinals of the 3A-5 district tournament as it downed Haskell Harmony Grove 52-43 Tuesday night at Episcopal Collegiate.

The Lions (9-18) jumped to a 14-5 lead in the opening quarter, but the Cardinals (4-22) recovered to take a 24-19 lead into the break.

Bismarck came back out strong in the second half, holding the Cardinals to just six while adding 12 to take a 31- edge into the final frame. The Lions put up 21 in the last eight minutes while giving up 13 to secure the win.

McMullin paced the Lions with 16 points, six assists and three rebounds, and Sawyer Hardage added 11 with three assists and two steals. Hayden Howell put up eight point with five rebounds and two steals, Collier Robertson had six points with nine rebounds and two assists, Dylan Clayton finished with six points and six boards and Dawson King shot for five points.

The Lions will take on Glen Rose (11-14) tonight at 8:15 p.m. in the semifinals of the tournament before advancing to next week’s regional at Rose Bud.
