Man arrested for felony forgery, theft
A Hot Springs man was arrested on multiple felony warrants Wednesday after allegedly attempting to cash unauthorized checks last year.
Frank Alexander West, 24, who lists a Tall Timber Road address, was taken into custody at
5:45 p.m. and charged with two counts of second-degree forgery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and two counts of theft of property over $1,000, punishable by up to six years.
West remained in custody Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $13,000 and a parole hold and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court for a plea and arraignment hearing.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Oct. 27,
2017, at around 1:30 p.m., West entered Southern Bancorp,
4216 Central Ave., and gave the teller a check drafted on an account from a Little Rock construction company and made out to West for $2,400. He reportedly presented his driver’s license and successfully cashed the check.
West allegedly attempted to cash another check from the company at the same location. The owner of the construction company was contacted by the bank as the second check would have put the account in the negative.
The owner reportedly stated he did not authorize the checks and that he still had possession of the check that was cashed by West. He also reportedly stated he has never met West and that West should not be in possession of any checks from the company.
The affidavit notes the transaction with West was captured on the bank’s video surveillance.
