The Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County hosted a reception for the Single Parent Scholarship recipients this month at Mid-America Science Museum.
Recipients and their families were invited to attend the reception.
Diane LaFollette, executive director of Mid-America Science Museum, and Jamie Marshall, ASPSF program manager, presented opening remarks. Daniel Schrader also shared his story as a single parent.
The committee approved
23 students to receive scholarship awards totaling
$16,250. Students enrolled in college full-time received
$750, and part-time students received $500.
Recipients included Goleta Morrow, Michelle Berg, Kiesha Cummings, Britney Estes, Sabrina Gregston, Chris Hall, Amanda Huggins. Leslie Renee Jones, Searci Moore, Daniel Schrader, Jessica Russell, Raquel Smalling, Samantha Spadling, Courtney Stepp, Jamie Williams, Tiffany Ware, Tasha Jones, Kristi Freeman, Terra Ford, Misty Smith, Bobbi Songer, Stacy Blake, and Derya Elmas.
Scholarship sponsors included Arkansas Department of Education, Entergy, the Morris Foundation, Virginia Clinton Kelley Democratic Women of Garland County, the Munro Foundation, and First Presbyterian Church Women of Hot Springs, and Hot Springs Sunrise Rotary. Other sponsors and donations from the Annual Style Show for Scholarships, held in April, help fund the scholarships.
The Single Parent Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 with the mission to enable single parents to attain self-sufficiency through postsecondary education.
