HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — John and Virginia “Jenny” Michaluk, of Hot Springs Village, have passed away. John went Sept. 29, 2017, to ready a place for his beloved bride, who joined him on her 91st birthday, Feb. 9, 2018.

John and Jenny met in Southern California at a small diner Jenny worked as a side job. The diner was located across the street from Hunts Wesson Foods, where John worked as a foreman. He walked across the street one day for lunch, met Jenny, and the flirting never ended.

Neither were native Californians. John, originally from Canada, and Jenny, who had been raised in Arkansas, were both very proud of their food heritages. John cooked many Canadian specialties, while Jenny was known for her Southern fare.

After retirement, John from Hunts Wesson and Jenny from Lear where she worked as missile parts inspector, they moved to Hot Springs. They both remained active. John spent many days in the barns at Oaklawn where he sold Thermatex blankets to local trainers. He loved horse racing, the barns and the people. At 70, with help from her nephew, Bill, Jenny found a new interest in computers. She never lost her love of learning.

John and Jenny are survived by their daughters, Patricia Cavinder and Marla Michaluk; grandchildren, Jason Lynch and Kelly Brummett; great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Jaxon and Sienna; and a much loved extended family including nephew, William “Bill” Perry, and nieces, Bronda Perry, Linda Johns, Sharon Gore and Maryanne George.

They were predeceased by a son, Richard Cavinder; brother, Herbert Perry; and sister, Mary Lanelle Farver.

Please remember John and Jenny by making memorials to The Caring Place, 101 Quapaw, Hot Springs, AR 71901; or to the Alzheimer Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601
